Active duty, reservists, National Guard, retirees, veterans, and Gold Star families — we specialize in travel for the military community because we are the military community. Jinni Vacations is veteran-owned and Coast Guard-founded, and military and veteran travel isn’t a side specialty for us. It’s the reason we exist. Planning is free. Booking goes directly to the supplier. We’re with you from the day you request a quote until the day you fly home.
Why a Veteran-Owned Agency Matters
If you’ve ever tried to use a military discount through a mainstream travel agent or a chain booking site, you’ve probably had at least one of these experiences: the agent didn’t know the rules, the discount didn’t actually save you money once you compared it to public promotions, the resort didn’t recognize your eligibility at check-in, or the website that promised “military pricing” was running a regular sale with a flag emoji on it.
We’ve lived that. Our founder, Dustin Perkins, served in the Coast Guard, and our agency exists specifically to do this work right. We know which discounts actually save money and which are marketing dressed up as a discount. We know which resorts genuinely welcome military families and which just slap a banner on their homepage every November. We track the timing of military-only promotions across cruise lines, theme parks, and resorts. And we plan around the realities of military life — deployments, PCS moves, leave windows, dual-military scheduling, and the constant possibility of orders changing your dates with two weeks’ notice.
What's included when you book your military or veteran trip through us
Eligibility verification across every supplier. Each travel supplier has its own rules for what counts as “military” — some include reservists and National Guard on inactive duty, some don’t; some include retirees and 100% disabled veterans, some don’t; some extend to dependents and spouses traveling without the service member, some don’t. We know the rules per supplier and apply them correctly the first time so you’re not arguing at a check-in counter.
Disney military salute tickets. When offered, these are typically the best Disney ticket discount available to anyone — better than DVC member rates, better than annual pass holders, better than Florida resident tickets. They sell out fast and have specific activation rules. We track them the moment they’re announced and snag them while they’re still available.
Shades of Green coordination. Disney’s on-property Armed Forces Recreation Center resort is one of the best values on Disney property — and it’s also notoriously hard to book at the right time. Eligibility, room categories, and the booking window all have nuances most people don’t learn until their second stay. We know the system and book it right.
Stars and Stripes resort discount. Disney’s promotional military discount on select Walt Disney World resort hotels. When offered, it can take 30–40% off rack rate at participating properties — but it’s tied to specific dates, specific resorts, and specific eligibility. We’ll tell you when it’s worth it and when a different promotion saves you more.
Armed Forces Vacation Club (AFVC). A program that offers heavily discounted week-long stays at timeshare resorts worldwide for active duty, reservists, retirees, and veterans. The inventory rotates constantly, and the deals can be exceptional — but the booking system is awkward and the rules around eligibility and travel dates take some learning. We help clients navigate AFVC for the trips where it makes sense.
Disney Cruise Line military stateroom rates. DCL offers military rates on select sailings — not every sailing has them, and they’re not always the best deal compared to early-booking discounts. We run the math both ways and book whichever saves you more.
Other cruise line military offers. Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Carnival, Princess, and Holland America all have military discount programs with varying rules and eligibility. Some are stackable with other promotions; some aren’t. We know the difference.
All-inclusive resort military rates. Sandals, Beaches, Excellence, Hyatt Ziva, and other all-inclusive chains run periodic military offers with varying eligibility. We track which programs are active and apply them correctly.
Planning around military life. Deployment dates, PCS windows, leave schedules, dual-military coordination, and the realistic chance of orders changing your timeline — we plan trips with refundable bookings, change-friendly suppliers, and travel insurance that actually pays out for military reasons. If you’ve ever lost a non-refundable deposit because of a no-notice schedule change, you know why this matters.
On-trip support. If something breaks during your trip, you text us. We’ve handled missed flights, mid-trip orders, base ID issues at resort check-in, and the occasional scrambled discount activation. You shouldn’t be on hold with a 1-800 number while your family waits in the lobby.
Who Books Military and Veteran Travel With Us?
Active Duty Families
We plan around the realities of active service — deployments that might extend, leave that might be denied, schedules that might shift with two weeks’ notice. We book with refundable terms when we can, recommend travel insurance that actually pays out for military reasons, and stay flexible if your situation changes between booking and departure. We’ve worked with families across every branch.
Reservists and National Guard
Eligibility for reservists and Guard members varies wildly by supplier — some count drill weekends as active duty, some don’t; some include inactive reservists, some don’t; some require active orders, some don’t. We know which suppliers are reservist- and Guard-friendly and which aren’t, and we plan trips around the suppliers that actually treat your service the way it deserves.
Retirees and Veterans
Retiree and veteran eligibility for travel discounts is a patchwork. Some programs include any veteran with an honorable discharge; some require retirement; some require service-connected disability ratings; some require active military ID, others accept the VA Veteran Health Identification Card. We sort it out per supplier and apply what you qualify for.
Coast Guard Families
The Coast Guard is small, often overlooked in marketing aimed at “military families,” and Coasties tend to feel like an afterthought when discount programs roll out. We get it — our agency was founded by a Coastie. Coast Guard eligibility for military discount programs is the same as the other branches, but you sometimes have to fight for it at check-in. We document everything in advance so you don’t have to.
Gold Star Families
Gold Star Family travel programs exist across multiple suppliers — Armed Forces Vacation Club, certain cruise lines, and select resort partners. Eligibility, documentation, and the trips where these programs make a meaningful difference vary widely. We work with Gold Star families to plan travel that honors what their family has given.
Military Families with Accessibility Needs
The intersection of military service and accessibility is more common than the marketing usually shows. Service-connected injuries, family members with disabilities, and the wear and tear of decades of service all create accessibility considerations that travel suppliers handle with varying skill. We coordinate accessible accommodations, dietary needs, mobility equipment, and sensory considerations alongside military discount eligibility — because military families with accessibility needs shouldn’t have to pick which specialty their travel agent handles.
Frequently Asked Military and Veteran Travel Questions
Does it cost extra to book through a travel agent as a military family?
No. Travel suppliers pay us a small commission when you book through us, and that commission is built into the price they’d charge you anyway. Booking through us is the same price as booking direct, and almost always less because we apply military discounts and promotions you might not know about.
What documentation do I need to use military discounts?
It depends on the supplier and the discount. Common documentation includes a current military ID (DoD ID for active duty/reservists/dependents, USID for retirees, VHIC or DD-214 for veterans), orders if traveling on active duty, and in some cases a Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) statement. Some discounts require the service member to be present at check-in; others extend to dependents traveling alone. We’ll tell you exactly what to bring before you fly.
Are military discounts actually better than public promotions?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The Disney military salute promotional tickets, when offered, are typically the best Disney discount available — better than any public sale. Other military programs (some hotel chains, some cruise lines) periodically run “military discounts” that don’t beat the publicly-advertised sale running at the same time. We always compare the military rate against every other applicable promotion and book whichever actually saves you the most. We’re not loyal to military pricing — we’re loyal to whatever number is lower for your trip.
Can my family use my military discount if I can’t travel?
Depends on the program. Some military discounts (Disney Stars and Stripes, for example) require the service member to be in the traveling party. Others (certain cruise line offers, AFVC) extend to family traveling without the service member. Spouse-traveling-alone eligibility is very supplier-specific. We’ll check the rules for your specific trip before booking.
What if my orders change after I book a trip?
This is one of the most common military travel headaches, and we plan for it from the start. We book with refundable terms when possible, recommend travel insurance with military-specific coverage (orders changes, deployment, leave denial), and work with suppliers that have a track record of accommodating military reasons. If your orders change, we manage the rebooking, refund, or insurance claim — you focus on the orders.
How does Shades of Green work?
Shades of Green is the Armed Forces Recreation Center resort located on Walt Disney World property — fully owned and operated by the Department of Defense and offered exclusively to military, retiree, veteran, and DoD civilian families. Pricing is tiered by rank, room category, and dates. The booking window opens further out than most Disney-owned resorts (it’s not on Disney’s reservation system), and the best rooms book up fast — especially the King Suites and the Garden Wing during peak weeks. We book Shades of Green regularly and know how to time the request.
What’s Armed Forces Vacation Club (AFVC)?
AFVC is a program that offers $349/week timeshare stays at participating resorts worldwide for active duty, reservists, retirees, veterans, and DoD civilians. Inventory rotates constantly and the rules around eligibility, booking windows, and travel dates are unique to the program. The deals can be exceptional — especially for off-peak travel — but the booking system isn’t intuitive and the inventory varies a lot by destination. We help clients navigate AFVC for the trips where it makes sense and book through standard channels for the trips where it doesn’t.
Want To Dig In Before Reaching Out?
Some military families come to us ready to hand off the planning entirely. Others want to understand the discount landscape first and reach out once they’ve narrowed down what they actually want. Either approach works.
